“Success is waking up in the morning and bounding out of bed because there’s something out there that you love to do, that you believe in, that you’re good at – something that’s bigger than you are, and you can hardly wait to get at it again.” – Whit Hobbs
This International Stress Awareness Week (2nd–6th November 2026), the theme is “Shaping the Future of Stress and Wellbeing: Rehumanising the Workplace”.
I love this theme. We are people first – not machines, not job titles, not inboxes. And bounding out of bed, as Whit Hobbs describes, needs more than passion… it needs sleep, rest and a little space to breathe.
I work with many CEOs, leaders and business teams, and most come to me close to burnout, overwhelmed and unsure of their next step. The common thread is, somewhere along the way, the human bit got squeezed out – the sleep, the pauses, the conversations, the joy.
Workplace health is so important, whatever your work looks like. From a farmer’s field to the corporate office, the pressures may look different, yet the need is the same: rest, connection, support and space to feel well. At Energised, we support people across every kind of workplace, because wellbeing belongs to everyone, wherever they spend their working day.

Stress can help or harm
As Dr Hans Selye described back in 1956, stress can be beneficial or detrimental, depending on how we respond to it. A little pressure sharpens focus; chronic stress wears down energy, creativity and connection. The key is noticing your early signs of overload and having a plan in place.
Rest is where it begins
I recently shared some thoughts on sleep and rest over on Instagram – if you missed it, do take a look. Rest is often the first thing we sacrifice, and the first thing that brings us back to ourselves.
A few simple ways to rehumanise your working week:
- Protect your sleep – a regular wind-down and a daily digital switch-off are your hidden ninjas.
- Pause on purpose – book short breaks, walks or no-meeting time into your diary.
- Check in weekly – give your wellbeing a score out of 10. Below 5? Pause and reset.
- Talk to each other – ask “how are you, honestly?” and listen to the answer.
- Move and breathe – fresh air, a stretch and long, slow exhales calm a busy mind.
- Ask for help early – support is a strength, never a weakness.

A small reminder
It’s okay to pause. It’s okay to rest. And it’s absolutely okay to ask for help.
Use this week as a gentle prompt to check in with yourself and the people around you. We all do our best when we have a moment to pause and support in our corner.
I’m privileged to be giving the opening keynote at the BANES WLN Leadership Network Summit on Friday 15th January 2027 organised by the amazing Hannah Wilson.
