My Ibiza Nutrition Reflections….

download (1)

I have just had a wonderful 3 days in Ibiza. I was introduced to the White Isle by a great client, and wonderful person Jim about 10 years ago and fell in love with it.  So, whilst my recovery from Weil’s Disease has been progressive, heading somewhere I knew was essential.

The flight was fine, but definitely aggravated the brain, as does sustained conversation which is interesting. I have been recommended an App called WordStorm (in fact everyone should do this to help keep your brain active), so I will be doing this daily!

Anyway, in the essence of keeping this short and the message sweet I wanted to write my quick observations of food and fitness in Ibiza.  Firstly, choice and preparation is key to how you feel. On the island there is plenty of fresh fruits, fish and vegetables, blended into a wonderful mix of good, energised foods.  Snacking isn’t really promoted or required.  They take time over their food, eat slowly and with conversation (no laptops, TV or mobile phone dinner’s allowed!).  This allows your body to be aware of what it’s digesting and your mind know when you are full. Sounds like a good thing to me, plus increases conversation or quiet time if you are alone.

I know I often talk about being in bed by 10.30pm, and there are lots of ‘rules’ suggesting keep your food before 6 or 7pm to allow it to digest before your sleep. Out there the earliest you can eat is 8pm, yet I rarely saw an overweight person. Which would lead me to believe that what you are eating, and how you are eating it bears a much bigger relevance then timings.  I could discuss the benefits both ways, this is just my observation from Ibiza 🙂

So many people often ask me, how can I get lighter and leaner.

My top tips from Ibiza and life to start you off would be:

1. Ditch the scales and listen to your body – are you hungry, is your energy balanced and do you crave foods?  Monitor this, and adapt as required until all is balanced

2. Reduce your refined sugars and processed foods, they don’t give your mind or body much good energy – just energy vampires really

3. Watch your portion sizes – the size of our plates now are so much bigger than 20 years ago which can cause you to eat more.

4. Respect your body, move daily, sleep well and hydrate with water fully each day

5. Empty your stress bucket before you train hard.  Training hard will add additional stress that can prevent you becoming lighter.

6. Have positive images, thoughts and focus all around you – focus on why you want to achieve your goal and how it will make you feel, rather than what you don’t like which will keep you stuck where you don’t want to be

And remember, that changing for better or worse is uncomfortable, but the rewards of getting uncomfortable for how you want to feel, look and be are worth it. Trust me.

I would love to know your thoughts and how you get on.  The Sunday Times are running a #FitnotThin Campaign, all about getting people strong, fit and happy. 100% in line with my Energised Vision and we are totally ‘in’ on this!

You can join me in Bristol this Friday 23rd August for a Sweaty Betty VIP Ambassador Evening, ask me any questions on Body Confidence, Fitness & have a Metabolic ‘Tabata’ Inspired Beasting!

2. Passion Cafe (Playa den Bossa) & Restuarant (paseo juan carlos) – great smoothies and organic foods,
3. Hidden Cafe and Pondenco Clothing, mini golf and chilled areas – Cala de Sant Vicenc
